University of Colorado undergrad who posed as medical student at Denver Health will not face charges

The Denver District Attorney's Office declined July 11 to prosecute a University of Colorado Denver undergraduate student who allegedly impersonated a medical student and gained unauthorized access to Denver Health Medical Center in April, according to Fox-31 Denver.

The DA cited "insufficient evidence" in the case against Vanessa Loznik and did not cite the hospital for any wrongdoing, according to the report.

Denver Health filed an occurrence with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, claiming Ms. Loznik "obtained a medical student identification badge and was posing as a second-year medical student."

While at the facility, she allegedly "performed assessments and placed sutures in the arm of a female patient in her twenties," according to the occurrence, obtained by Becker's Hospital Review.

However, an internal investigation into the incident revealed Ms. Loznik obtained a medical student "learner" badge and treated the female patient "under the supervision of providers" at the facility, according to the report. The hospital noted it planned to notify the patient of the incident.

The report states the hospital proceeded to deactivate all learner badges in response to the incident. All students, volunteers and others with similar badges underwent a verification process to reactivate their badges.
