U Mass Medical School student chosen as national representative at AMA

The first student from Worcester-based University of Massachusetts Medical School has been elected to head the governing council for the American Medical Association Student Section.

In November, Christopher Libby, a third-year student UMMS student, was elected to chair the governing council of the AMA Student Section. He will serve as chair-elect until his one-year term begins in June.

The Medical Student Section of the AMA focuses on representing medical students, improving medical education and encouraging activism in healthcare.

Mr. Libby received a Master's of Public Health from Boston University and also has experience in healthcare IT. In his new role, he will serve as a liaison between the governing council and the AMA staff. Throughout his years at UMMS, he has attended numerous AMA conferences.

"I feel honored that my fellow students have put their trust in me," Mr. Libby said. "I want to help them get the most out of organized medicine. My biggest priority will be to get student voices heard and to raise awareness among students of the opportunities available to them through the AMA."
