Survey Finds the Average Physician is Affiliated With 1.7 Hospitals

A recent survey by SK&A, a provider of healthcare information solutions, has found that 90 percent of physicians are affiliated with at least one hospital, and the average physician is affiliated with 1.7 hospitals, according to a SK&A news release.

SK&A surveyed more than 235,000 U.S. medical offices over a six-month period to determine affiliation relationships between hospitals and physicians. The survey was conducted by SK&A's Research Center in Irvine, Calif., as part of its daily telephone verification of medical site information.

"Understanding the distinct and multifaceted relationship between physicians and hospitals is absolutely essential to succeed in today's competitive marketplace," Dave Escalante, SK&A's vice president of data and information solutions, said in the release.
