A registered sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old irl in a Springfield, Mo.-based Cox South Hospital room where both were visitors, according to the Springfield News-Leader.

The man has been charged with nine felonies stemming from allegations of the August incident, along with two more instances of assault at the girl's home. He has been listed as a sex offender since a 2002 conviction for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.

A spokesperson for Cox said the hospital was not aware of the allegations at the time, but is focusing its attention on the matter now.

"We are fully cooperating with the Springfield Police Department and are taking this matter seriously," said Kaitlyn McConnell, a spokesperson for Cox.
