Rush adds patient feedback to online physician profiles

Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center joined just four other hospitals nationwide in adding the results of patient evaluation surveys to online physician profiles.

Since the beginning of the year, Rush has added survey information to 100 physician profiles in the "Find a Doctor" section of its website, and plans to soon add patient comments too.

The information is collected from the 17,000 patient surveys Rush collects each year. Within this survey, 10 questions pertain to the provider, asking patients to rank the physician's friendliness, ability to explain care, level of concern and understandability. Responses are scored out of five stars and added to physician profiles with 30 or more survey responses in a one-year period.

"The general trend in healthcare is toward increased transparency," Anthony Perry, MD, vice president of ambulatory care and population health at Rush, said in a statement. "We want to embrace that trend, because we believe that information will empower patients who are making important decisions and simultaneously inspire us to be the best we can be on their behalf."
