Prominent NY surgeon jumps to death off bridge

Robert Ashton, MD, a thoracic surgeon, jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, N.J., Sunday morning, according to Sycracuse.com.

Dr. Ashton, 52, was affiliated with Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, N.Y., and practiced in The Bronx, according to NJ.com. He previously served as CMO of MYOS Corp., a biotherapeutics company. Other previous roles included division chief and vice-chairman of the Cancer Center at Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center and director of thoracic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Ashton divorced ABC News chief women's health correspondent Jennifer Ashton, MD, just two weeks ago, according to news reports.
