The University of Pittsburgh's Health Policy Institute and its primary clinical partner, UPMC, have formed the Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.
The center will foster the development of new models of team-based care education and practice. It will be led by Ben Reynolds, director of the Office of Advanced Practice Providers at UPMC, and Susan Meyer, PhD, associate dean for education and a professor at Pitt's School of Pharmacy.
CIPE will conduct research that evaluates the cost, quality and patient outcomes of interprofessional care models. Findings from the studies will inform the curricula and training of Pitt's six Schools of the Health Sciences.
The goal of the CIPE research team is to fill the evidence gap surrounding interprofessional care, which occurs when health workers with different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients, families and communities.
