Physician dragged from United Airlines flight settles lawsuit for undisclosed amount

David Dao, MD, the physician forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight earlier this month, reached a settlement with the airline for an undisclosed amount, according to Time.

An attorney for Dr. Dao said United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz and United have "taken full responsibility for what happened on flight 411, without attempting to blame others, including the city of Chicago," according to the report.

Cell phone footage recorded by passengers on United Flight 411 and uploaded to social media reportedly showed Dr. Dao being dragged down the aisle of the aircraft by security officers. Dr. Dao's attorney said the physician suffered a concussion and broken bones during the incident, according to the report.

In addition to the settlement, the airline also announced protocol changes, including better training of its employees, better organization to avoid overbooking and a push to limit the use of local security enforcement. Officials also increased the minimum amount of flight credits airline attendants can offer passengers who agree to voluntarily deboard to $10,000, according to the report.
