Phoenix Children's to provide pediatric intensivists, hospitalists at Tucson Medical Center

Phoenix Children's Hospital has entered into a contract to provide pediatric intensivists and hospitalists for Tucson (Ariz.) Medical Center beginning June 3, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Phoenix Children's is hiring seven pediatric hospitalists to staff TMC's 44-bed inpatient pediatric unit and two to four pediatric critical care intensivists for the medical center's 12-bed pediatric ICU. Four hospitalists have already been hired, according to the report.

While the contract only currently includes hospitalists and intensivists, it could eventually include specialists, such as geneticists, pediatric endocrinology and rheumatology, according to the report.

This will be the first time in 25 years the medical center does not use pediatric intensivists from Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, according to the report. In addition, TMC will no longer staff Banner-University Medical Center Tucson hospitalists, which it has used since 2013.
