Owensboro Health Makes Physician Recruitment Push

Pre-med students from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green toured Owensboro (Ky.) Health last week as part of the system's physician recruitment efforts, according to a SurfKY News report.

The eight WKU students toured the hospital, visited radiology and surgery suites and viewed a video of a recent surgery.

The goal of the tour was to encourage the future physicians to stay in the area after earning their medical degrees, according to the report. This will help the area fight the looming nationwide physician shortage.

"The physician recruitment team is always looking for ways to reach out to those interested in medicine," Steve Johnson, the hospital's executive director for community, governmental and legislative affairs, told SurfKY. "Physician recruitment is as fierce as basketball recruitment."

In the future, Owensboro Health plans to expand the tours to include students from the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky.
