North Shore-LIJ, UnitedHealthcare Offer Accountable Care Plan for Employers

Manhasset, N.Y.-based North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System has partnered with UnitedHealthcare for a new health plan based on accountable care principles.

Under the UnitedHealthcare North Shore-LIJ Advantage Plan, the health system has a chance to earn financial incentives based on quality health outcomes and medical cost reductions in the office and hospital setting.

There are different options within the plan, including two in-network benefit tiers. Tier one includes several thousand physicians and other select care providers affiliated with the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Tier two comprises all other physicians and providers in the UnitedHealthcare Choice network. Customers who enroll in tier one may seek in-network care from providers in tier two but with slightly higher out-of-pocket costs.

Employers in New York's Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties will be eligible for the enrollment in the plan as of Jan. 1.
