North Carolina Cardiologist Sues Hospital for Suspending Privileges
Frank Wefald, MD, a cardiologist practicing at Johnston Health, a public hospital system in Smithfield, N.C., filed a complaint in county court against Johnston after the system suspended his privileges, according to a report by the Herald. While Dr. Wefald's complaint did not mention a specific reason for the suspension, it argued the suspension was for "political" reasons and not based on the quality of care provided by Dr. Wefald, according to the report.
Last week, a Johnston County Superior Court Judge signed a temporary order allowing Dr. Wefald to continue practicing at the health system until the case returns to court on May 28.
Dr. Wefald and Johnston Health have met in court last year, when he sued the system after it planned to suspend his privileges, contending he allowed physician assistants to sign his charts and used abusive language at the hospital. He settled privately with the system.
