NC physicians offer video physician visits

Two healthcare providers in Winston-Salem, N.C., have begun offering video physician visits to patients, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Novant Health started offering video visits through its Novant Health Express Care facility in Clemmons. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center created a video-visit program for employees and their family members, and is working on opening visits to all patients.

Novant offers visits within MyChart, an EHR portal, while Wake Forest Baptist's video visits are conducted through Teladoc, a telehealth provider.

Novant began offering video visits through some facilities in 2014, and the visits are now available at eight Novant facilities in the Winston-Salem market. Video visits are available to patients who have been to any Novant Health practice in North Carolina in the past two years and who have an active MyChart account.

Wake Forest Baptist began offering video visits in May for its 25,000 employees and their families. As of June, 67 people had used the service. The system expects to open video visits to all its patients by the end of the year.
