Mohawk Valley Health System cuts ties with 3 physician groups

Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, N.Y., has cut ties with three local pediatrics groups, according to a WKTV report.

Sauquoit Pediatrics, Utica Pediatrics and Slocum Dickson Medical Group Pediatrics will no longer have privileges at Utica's three local hospitals, effective July 1. Starting then, pediatricians will refer their patients who require hospital admission to Golisano Children's Hospital at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y., according to the report, which cites a letter sent to parents.

Officials with Mohawk Valley Health System said the three pediatrics groups made the decision to cut ties with the health system, and indicated to the hospitals' executive committee that they didn't want to do emergency room rotations for patients who weren't theirs anymore. According to the report, the committee didn't grant this, so the pediatricians chose to withdraw their hospital privileges.
