Missouri Republican pushes for pharmacists to prescribe birth control

Rep. Sheila Soron (R-Mo.) Wednesday proposed "the ultimate pro-life bill" in the House, according to KMOV News.

The bill would allow women to circumvent the physician's office and go straight to the pharmacist to get an oral contraceptive prescription. Rep. Soron said the bill would make access to birth control easier, and therefore lead to fewer unwanted pregnancies and abortions, according to the report.

Oregon, California, and Washington, D.C., have already implemented similar policies and four other states are considering it, according to the report.

No one in the House spoke out against the bill, but some representatives voiced concerns about sidestepping physicians, according to the report. The bill would require patients to visit a physician within three months of the initial prescription, according to the report.
