Miami University, Mercy Health to affiliate

Oxford, Ohio-based Miami University and Cincinnati-based Mercy Health have announced the formation of the Miami University-Mercy Health affiliation to collaborate on academic initiatives, provide sports medicine services and sponsor a student-athlete sports medicine rehabilitation center.

A jointly appointed leadership team will explore and implement educational initiatives with Mercy Health at Miami's Oxford and regional campuses as well as Mercy Health facilities throughout Ohio. Potential areas of education include allied health professions, nursing, health IT, physician leadership development, gerontology, diversity and cultural awareness and athletic training and sports medicine.

Under the affiliation agreement, Mercy Health will become Miami University's sole provider of sports medicine and rehabilitation services for Miami varsity sports, club sports and recreational intramural sports, effective July 1.

Additionally, Mercy Health will provide $10 million over 13 years to help fund the construction of the Gunlock Family Performance Center beyond the Yager Stadium's north end zone. The athletic performance center, which is slated to open Jan. 1, 2017, will include a state-of-the-art sports medicine and rehabilitation center. The center was named after Randy and Vicki Gunlock, who donated $6 million for the project.
