LA couple donates $25M to USC medical school

Los Angeles developer Rick Caruso and his wife Tina announced Thursday a $25 million gift to the otolaryngology department at USC's Los Angeles-based Keck School of Medicine, according to the LA Times.

"We want to be able to give more kids an opportunity for a very full and rich life and to minimize the struggles that come with hearing loss," Mr. Caruso said, according to the report. The Caruso's daughter, Gianna, had a hearing implant placed in her ear canal last year by USC physicians.

After spending most of her life with external hearing aids and learning how to read lips, the teen is now able to hear sounds like birds chirping, according to Mr. Caruso.

Mr. Caruso is a USC alum, as are two of his sons and a third son is a current student. He serves on the school's board of trustees and has previously donated $10 million to the university, according to the report.

USC is currently campaigning to raise $6 billion by 2018, according to the report.
