In-house physician recruiters carry heavy workloads, survey shows

Almost half of in-house physician recruitment professionals expect the volume of searches they will handle in the next year to increase, while the majority of recruiters at the management level already carry a workload of at least 10 searches, according to the 2014 In-House Physician Recruitment Processes Report based off The Association of Staff Physician Recruiters' recent survey.

Survey results are based on responses from 240 in-house physician recruitment professionals employed by hospitals, universities and multi-specialty groups. Ultimately, the survey found that in-house recruiters have assumed a more active role in physician recruitment and have been asked to carry a heavier workload.

Forty-eight percent of in-house physician recruitment professionals anticipate taking on more searches, while 63 percent at the management level already manage 10 or more. Many respondents also indicated they are being directed to aim searches at advanced practice providers, such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives.

In-house recruiters are commonly additionally responsible for onboarding (64 percent), retention (51 percent) and strategic planning (60 percent).
