Iberia Medical Center teams up with Lafayette General Health: 5 things to know

Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, La., has joined Lafayette (La.) General Health as part of a clinical affiliation agreement.

Here are five things to know about the agreement.

1. The clinical affiliation between LGH and IMC is neither a purchase nor an acquisition.

2. Under the agreement, each organization's ownership and governance structure will remain the same.

3. The affiliation will enhance the economies of scale for both IMC and LGH and allow the organizations to share best practices, according to the organizations. IMC's affiliation with LGH also enhances their strategic partnership with New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System, which was formed in April.

4. The goal of the agreement is to produce a partnership "that focuses on producing high-quality, coordinated care to the residents of Iberia Parish," the organizations said. IMC and LGH intend to keep as much care as possible at IMC, only transferring patients to a Lafayette General facility if the scope of care requires.

5. The affiliation with IMC is not the first clinical affiliation for LGH.  LGH also has clinical affiliations with Franklin (La.) Foundation hospital, Abbeville (La.) General Hospital, Savoy Medical Center in Mamou, La., and Bunkie (La.) General Hospital.
