Hancock County Health Offers Cash Reward for Recommended Physician Hires

Hancock County Health System in Britt, Iowa, is offering $10,000 to anyone who refers a physician to the system and the physician is then hired, according to a report by The Globe Gazette.

The system implemented the program because recruiting physicians has become more difficult due to the physician shortage in Iowa, according to the report.

"The best way to get a physician to come to a community and stay in the community is [to be a] community that they grew up in or grew up close to," Vance Jackson, the system's administrator and CEO, told The Globe Gazette. "We're hoping people in this community and our staff know someone who grew up here or near here."

The $10,000 reward would cost Hancock County Health System less than if it hired a professional search firm, according to the report.

The reward is not a lump sum; rather, it would be paid out according to this schedule:

•    Physician's completion of 30 days of employment: $2,000
•    Completion of six months of employment: $3,000
•    Completion of one year of employment: $5,000

If community members know of a physician who would be interested in practicing at HCHS, they can contact hospital administration at 641-843-5151.
