Four universities launch National Clinician Scholars Program

Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan, University of California Los Angeles, Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania and New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University are partnering to launch a policy and research program for both nurses and physicians.

The program, called the National Clinician Scholars Program, will take the place of the now defunct Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars program for physicians. The new program will also extend policy-relevant healthcare research opportunities to nurses, in addition to physicians. Nurses and physicians will be able to partner on healthcare redesign, improvement and research. Mentoring, tailored curriculum, clinical work and a national annual meeting will all be part of the program, according to a statement.

The program is slated to admit its first class beginning in July 2016. Physicians who have completed their degree and residencies, as well as those who have completed a PhD in nursing are eligible to apply.
