Dean of U of Vermont medical school to retire next year: 5 takeaways

Burlington-based University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine Dean Frederick Morin, MD, is retiring in 2018.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Dr. Morin assumed the role a decade ago, in August 2007.

2. He previously served as chair of pediatrics and pediatrician-in-chief at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo (N.Y.) and as interim dean of the University at Buffalo's School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

3. During his tenure at the Larner College of Medicine, the college received numerous gifts due to Dr. Morin's philanthropy efforts, including a $100 million gift from late alumnus Robert Larner, MD.

4. He also played a key role in developing new clinical training sites and growing the college's research enterprise to $90 million.

5. Dr. Morin has also served on Association of American Medical Colleges' Council of Deans.
