Cornerstone Health Care sells cardiology practice to High Point hospital

High Point, N.C.-based Cornerstone Health Care sold its cardiology practice to High Point Regional Health System, part of Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The practice, which has locations in Asheboro, Lexington, Statesville, Thomasville and Winston-Salem, N.C., will officially join UNC Regional Physicians Feb. 13, according to the report.

Cornerstone's chief executive, Grace Terrell, said it made sense to sell the physician-owned cardiology practice to a hospital where it will be shielded from the impact of federal payment policy changes, according to the report.

The news of the sale comes a day after Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center signed a letter of intent to acquire Cornerstone, according to the report.

Cornerstone officials said the deal with High Point was made before it began negotiations with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, according to the report.
