CMS: Hospitals Can Apply for 27 Available Residency Slots

CMS is redistributing 27 Medicare residency slots made available after the closure of Long Beach (N.Y.) Medical Center.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act authorizes CMS to redistribute residency slots after an approved teaching hospital closes.

Hospitals can apply for a portion of those slots with this form. CMS' Central office must receive applications for the positions by Sept. 2. After hospitals mail the application, they must also notify CMS of their mailed submissions via email.

That email should state: "On behalf of [hospital name and CMS certification number], I am sending this email to notify CMS that I have mailed to CMS a hard copy of a section 5506 application under Round 7 due to the closure of Long Beach Medical Center." An electronic copy of the application should not be attached to the email.
