AMA publishes new Code of Medical Ethics book

The American Medical Association Monday released its Code of Medical Ethics in a hardcover book format, which was revised last June.

After an eight-year modernization project, the AMA released its updated Code of Medical Ethics in June 2016, marking the Code's first revision in more than half a century.

"The new edition of the Code of Medical Ethics will remain a useful and effective resource that physicians can continue to rely on, while remaining faithful to the virtuesoffidelity, humanity, loyalty, tenderness, confidentiality and integrity that are enshrined in the originalcode," AMA Past President Steven Stack, MD, said in statement.

The revised edition includes guidance on new technologies, changing patient expectations and shifting priorities in healthcare today. It was revised into a simpler, more navigable format. The book is available for purchase on the AMA's website.
