9 Transactions Between Hospitals and Physician Groups

1. Children's Hospital of Illinois to Acquire Pediatric Cardiology Practice
Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, part of OSF HealthCare System, has acquired Rockford, Ill.-based Pediatric Cardiology Associates of Northern Illinois. The practice and its three physicians will join the Children's Hospital Congenital Heart Center, effective July 24, becoming OSF Children's Medical Group – Congenital Heart Center.

2. Denver's Centura Health Partners With Two Cardiology Groups
Denver-based Centura Health has entered into a professional services agreement with Colorado Spring (Colo.) Cardiologists and South Denver Cardiology Associates to provide cardiology services across the Centura network. Colorado Springs Cardiologists includes nine cardiologists, while South Denver Cardiology Associates includes 19 cardiologists.

3. Illinois' Midwest Heart Specialists to Merge With Advocate Medical Group
Midwest Heart Specialists in Oak Brook, Ill., signed a letter of intent to integrate with Chicago-based Advocate Medical Group. MHS is Illinois' largest independent cardiology practice with more than 50 physicians while Advocate Medical Group, part of Advocate Health Care, is one of Illinois' largest medical groups. The deal's financial terms were not disclosed and the transaction is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.

4. Indiana University Health Acquires Central Indiana Cancer Centers
In a deal that closed June 1, Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health acquired the five facilities of Central Indiana Cancer Centers. The physicians will remain independent but have signed a service agreement with IU Health. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

5. Kansas Medical Center Acquires Cypress Heart
Kansas Medical Center in Andover acquired Cypress Heart, a four-physician practice in Wichita, Kan. KMC will take over the administration of Cypress immediately and physicians will focus their practice at KMC. The merger came as little surprise to Cypress physicians, who already spend a great deal of time at KMC.

6. New Jersey's Lourdes Health System Acquires South Jersey Heart Group
Lourdes Health System in Camden, N.J., has acquired South Jersey Heart Group, which includes 17 cardiologists and five offices. The practice is the second cardiology group acquired by Lourdes this year.

7. San Diego's Scripps Health Forms Integrated Delivery Network With 7 Physician Groups
Through a joint venture with North American Medical Management California, San Diego-based Scripps Health will form an integrated delivery network with seven physician groups in San Diego County. The joint venture, called Scripps Integrated Delivery Network, is organized to respond to alternative care management agreements.

8. University of Kansas Cancer Center Merges with 11-Location Cancer Practice
The University of Kansas Cancer Center in Kansas City and Overland Park-based Kansas City Cancer Center have closed a merger to form what they say is one of the largest academic cancer treatment programs in the country. The merger is considered an essential component of KU's application to become accredited by the National Cancer Institute. KCCC is the largest cancer practice in the metro area, with 11 clinic locations.

9. Washington's PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Acquires Cardiology Group
PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, Wash., reached an agreement to acquire North Cascade Cardiology, also in Bellingham, effective July 1. Financial details were not disclosed. North Cascade has 13 cardiologists and four nurse practitioners.
