300+ physician groups push for improvements to Medicare Advantage

On behalf of 300 medical groups and practice associations, CAPG, a national physician group association, sent a letter Tuesday to Congress asking for support to strengthen the Medicare Advantage program.

The letter asks Congress to push for CMS to grow the Medicare Advantage program and risk-based, coordinated care.

The groups feel the Medicare Advantage program, which covers 16 million American seniors, has suffered from funding cuts year after year, despite the program's efforts to drive innovation in the healthcare delivery system

"With its emphasis on risk-based contracting and clinically integrated care, Medicare Advantage is paving the way for the advancement of coordinated care in every other healthcare program," the letter states. "In addition to improving care and quality of life for seniors, this risk-based coordinated care model has the ability to rein in Medicare spending, unlike fee-for-service and its volume-driven incentives."
