11 cities recognize 'Day of Solidarity' for physician suicide prevention

Physicians in almost a dozen cities across the country came together Saturday to help prevent physician suicide.

An estimated 400 physicians commit suicide each year, according to the campaign, which was organized on Care2, a social network of citizen activists. The goal of the event was to raise awareness of the issue, help spur change and pay tribute to physicians whose lives have been lost to suicide.

Participating cities included:

  • Athens, Ohio
  • Austin, Texas
  • Chicago
  • Cleveland
  • Dublin, Ohio
  • Harrogate, Tenn.
  • Kansas City, Mo.
  • Middletown, N.Y.
  • Philadelphia
  • St. Louis, Mo.
  • Washington, D.C.
