10 Most Pressing Career Concerns for Physicians

Compensation and reimbursement and work/life balance represent the most pressing career concerns for both practicing physicians and physicians in training, according to The Medicus Firm's 2013 "Physician Practice Preference & Relocation Survey."

 Here are the top 10 career concerns among practicing physicians. (Note: Respondents were told to select two of 17 items that most accurately described their most pressing concerns for 2013.)

1. Compensation and/or reimbursement — 53.9 percent
2. Work/life balance — 45.2 percent
3. Work-related burnout and stress — 22.1 percent
4. Impact of healthcare reform — 16.6 percent
5. Lack of autonomy or control in my practice — 11.8 percent
6. Quality of healthcare — 10.8 percent
7. Finding a new practice opportunity — 7.3 percent
8. Malpractice issues — 6.7 percent
9. Patient-physician relationships — 5.2 percent
10. Implementing electronic medical records — 5 percent

1. Work/life balance — 55.6 percent.
2. Compensation and/or reimbursement — 50 percent.
3. Impact of health reform — 21.5 percent.
4. Work-related burnout and stress — 15.4 percent.
5. Finding a new practice opportunity — 13.6 percent.
6. Quality of healthcare — 13.1 percent.
7. Malpractice issues — 12.1 percent.
8. Lack of autonomy or control in my practice — 10.7 percent.
9. Physician-patient relationships — 7.5 percent.
10. Implementing EMRs — 3.7 percent.
