In Florida, Miami-Dade county commissioners have postponed votes to reconsider a resolution that would establish a permanent seven-member board for Miami-based Jackson Health System, according to a Miami Herald report.
This fall, the commission voted to establish a smaller, permanent board, which would be selected by a nominating committee of nine people. Five of those nine individuals would be board members. The commission would then approve the nominees.
Last year, a temporary seven-member financial recovery board oversaw the system. That structure was set to expire in May, and the system's former 17-member board would then resume governance. Commission Chairman Joe Martinez proposed keeping the seven-member board in place, but the resolution caused a divide between commissioners.
A date for the commissioners' vote was not specified in the report.
