VA Medical Center fires director for email indiscretions

The director of the Washington D.C. VA Medical Center who was fired last Friday sent sensitive information to his personal email and his wife's personal email, according to Fox 5.

Brian Hawkins was relieved of his administrative duties in April after a report detailed poor conditions at the Washington D.C. VA Medical Center, but he was only fired once his email improprieties were revealed. The Department of Veterans Affairs did not share what exactly Mr. Hawkins sent to the personal accounts, but the emails did contain sensitive personnel information.

"On July 28, VA terminated the employment of former Washington DC VA Medical Center Director Brian Hawkins because he failed to provide effective leadership at the medical center," read the official VA statement. "This action underscores VA's commitment to holding all employees accountable if they fail to do their jobs or live up to VA's values."
