Top 5 emerging strategic priorities of independent hospitals; small & large health systems

Unlike their current initiatives, there is considerable variability among healthcare executives' top emerging priorities over the next 18 months, according to a recent survey conducted by Hospital 100.

The 2015 National Hospital Leadership Survey was conducted in January and includes responses from more than 240 healthcare executives from across the country.

Listed below are the strategic priorities executives ranked highest among their emerging initiatives, listed by organization type.

Independent hospitals

  • Partnership and affiliation
  • Risk-based payment, bundling and capitation
  • Outpatient services, clinics, ASCs and more
  • Telehealth
  • Accountable care organizations

Small systems (up to 5 hospitals)

  • Partnership and affiliation
  • Population health management
  • Risk-based payment, bundling and capitation
  • Data Analytics
  • Consumerism

Large systems (5 or more hospitals)

  • Risk-based payment, bundling and capitation
  • Partnership and affiliation
  • Telehealth
  • Outpatient services, clinics, ASCs and more
  • Physician alignment and engagement

Physician alignment and engagement as well as population health management also ranked high among the emerging priorities of executives at independent hospitals.
