SUNY to Lay Off 300+ Long Island College Hospital Workers

As the State University of New York receives bids to sell Long Island college Hospital in Brooklyn, it plans to lay off 300 to 350 LICH employees, a union representative told The Brooklyn Paper.

More than 1,400 employees are currently on LICH's payroll, even though the hospital is serving a dwindling patient base, according to the report. No details have been finalized as to which employees will be affected, or when.

SUNY has been attempting to close the financially struggling LICH for more than a year, but it issued a request for proposals to sell the hospital in February. Interested parties have until March 19 to submit proposals.
