Staffing shortages lead the way as top concern among C-Suite leaders

In their Economic Outlook: Fall 2016 C-Suite Survey, Premier, Inc found that staffing shortages top the list of concerns for healthcare C-suite leaders, with 42 percent identifying this as having the biggest impact on their ability to delivery care effectively.

This survey is the Charlotte, N.C.-based organization's semiannual flagship publication that highlights emerging economic and industry trends impacting health systems. It represents 52 health system C-suite executives across the U.S.

The survey revealed that 72% of respondents think the supply of primary care physicians is inadequate to meet their needs over the next three years. Furthermore, slightly more than half of the respondents do not have an adequate supply of "healthcare extenders", which include nurse practioners, physician assistants, and the like.
