South Carolina Judge Upholds Ruling to Allow New Roper St. Francis, Trident Hospitals

Staff -
A South Carolina administrative law court has upheld a 2009 ruling by the state's Department of Health & Environmental Control to allow Charleston, S.C.-based Roper St. Francis Healthcare to build a hospital in Berkeley County, according to a WCSC report.

Charleston-based Trident Health System, which also received approval in 2009 to build a hospital in Berkeley County, appealed the initial ruling, saying in a statement, "Trident believes that original decision went against DHEC's own State Health Plan and regulations, which are in place to determine the need for new hospital and medical services, based on population growth and utilization in a given service area."
