Senate to vote on GOP healthcare bill in 2 weeks
Senate Republicans will not be ready to vote on their healthcare bill for at least two weeks, Capitol Hill and White House sources told Politico.
Several factors are slowing the process, according to the report. Senators are waiting on a review of legislative language from the Congressional Budget Office and approval from the Senate parliamentarian on contentious provisions. Republicans have also not yet been able to garner the support of at least 50 senators at the same time, as more conservative and moderate members of the party continue to disagree on elements of the bill. In particular, debate has centered on taxes on the wealthy, Medicaid spending and a proposal from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, to allow the sale of deregulated plans on the exchanges, according to the report.
Due to the stalemate, a group of 10 senators want Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to consider cancelling or shortening the August recess if progress has not been made by then, according to the report.
