Retirees of Colorado's Memorial Hospital Stop Receiving Pension Pay

Fourteen retirees from Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., stopped receiving their pension payments shortly after the hospital joined the University of Colorado Health System in October 2012, according to a Colorado Springs Gazette report.

Each month, approximately $53,000 was distributed among the 14 retirees. The payments were not part of regular pension disbursement from the Public Employees Retirement Association to Memorial Hospital retirees, according to the report. Rather, these pension payments were "in a category all their own," according to the report. After the transaction, it remains unclear who is responsible for the pension payments.

The retirees have not yet filed a lawsuit, but more than half of them have joined to hire an attorney, according to the report.

"I was promised this indefinitely, until I die," one retiree, who asked that her real name not be used, said in the report. "We all plan and budget for our retirement, and that $700 a month makes a difference in my budget."
