Northside Medical Center to lay off employees: 4 things to know

A number of employees will be laid off at ValleyCare Health System of Ohio's Northside Medical Center, based in Youngstown, Ohio.

Here are four things to know about the layoffs.

1. The layoffs are "an effort to more closely align staffing to the community's usage of services," ValleyCare Health System of Ohio said in a statement.

"We value the skills and services of all these employees and regret that reductions are necessary, however, our patient volumes do not support the current workforce," the health system added.

2. The workforce adjustment will affect approximately 68 full-time equivalents at Northside Medical Center.

3. ValleyCare's statement does not indicate the exact number of employees affected by the layoffs. The health system's statement also does not indicate when the layoffs will take effect or which employee groups, such as nurses and service workers, are affected.

4. The hospital said it continues to pursue strategies for growth and make investments in the services such as inpatient medical care, outpatient surgery and emergency services.
