Newly released Trump healthcare overview indicates position on Medicare, FDA, abortion

President-elect Donald Trump released a policy brief Thursday highlighting the elements of his healthcare plan that will be priorities when he takes office next year.

As promised from his campaign, Mr. Trump plans to work with Congress to repeal the ACA and replace it with policies that favor a free-market approach. "The administration recognizes that the problems with the U.S. healthcare system did not begin with — and will not end with the repeal of — the ACA," the policy brief reads.

This replacement plan will include expanded health savings accounts, re-established high-risk insurance pools, flexibility for states in administering Medicaid and a revamped approach to Medicare. The brief also indicates the Trump administration will continue to support a pro-life stance on abortion, will work to accelerate medical product approvals in the Food and Drug Administration and will put an emphasis on innovation and research in the healthcare industry.

"The administration's goal will be to create a patient-centered healthcare system that promotes choice, quality and affordability with health insurance and healthcare, and take any needed action to alleviate the burdens imposed on American families and businesses by the law," the brief states.
