Hundreds of registered nurses from New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center and Staten Island University Hospital recently conducted informational pickets throughout New York, demanding better health benefits and an overall fair contract, according to a New York State Nurses Association news release.
Nurses stressed the importance of reasonable health insurance benefits, and some NYSNA officials said hospital management across all facilities is using the economic climate to squeeze nurses on both wages and benefits. "A fair contract for nurses, one that provides for appropriate RN staffing, reasonable wages and assured access to healthcare, is good for the community," said Michelle Green, a NYSNA bargaining representative.
No timetable has been set for contract negotiations between the parties to be finalized.
