John Noseworthy, MD, president and CEO of Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, spoke to the Economic Club of Minnesota at a luncheon in Minneapolis March 22, according to the Post Bulletin.
The report from earlier today said Dr. Noseworthy was scheduled to "share his perspective on leading the 150-year-old organization through a period of significant growth and innovation while facing external challenges" with members of the club.
The Economic Club, which includes many business leaders in the state, aims "to provide a forum for vigorous, high-level discussions of issues that affect our competitiveness and security," according to the report.
Dr. Noseworthy was scheduled to answer questions from members and the media following his speech.
A longtime leader of the highly esteemed academic medical center, Dr. Noseworthy has recently garnered increased attention from the public and media after a March 15 report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune revealed that he directed caregivers to "prioritize" patients with private insurance over Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries during a videotaped speech. The video was made in late 2016, the clinic verified.
Following the Minneapolis Star Tribune report, the Minnesota Department of Human Services began a review of Mayo Clinic for possible violations of civil and human rights laws, as well as an evaluation of the department's managed care, fee-for-service and integrated health partnership agreements with the health system, according to MPR.
