Lehigh Valley Health Network job cuts affect 34

Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network will eliminate dozens of jobs, affecting 34 people, The Morning Call reports.

Lehigh attributed the cuts to changes in the healthcare industry.

“As the national model for healthcare delivery continues to transform, it’s necessary for LVHN to identify ways to provide better care to more people at a lower cost,” Lehigh said in a statement, according to the report. “As a result, we must make adjustments that include deploying staff to areas of growth while also focusing more narrowly in other areas of the network."

None of the affected employees are direct caregivers. For those who are affected, Lehigh is trying to find them other positions within the network, according to the report.

The job cuts come as Lehigh recently announced it would merge with Pottsville, Pa.-based Schuylkill Health System. Lehigh is also in the process of completing its merger with East Stroudsburg, Pa.-based Pocono Health System.
