Layoffs Pending for LifePoint Hospitals

Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals has announced plans to cut an unspecified number of jobs after its 2013 earnings outlook fell below analysts' estimates, according to a Tennessean report.

Fifty-seven-hospital LifePoint employs approximately 400 people at its hospital support center in Brentwood and more than 29,000 across 20 states.

Spokesperson Diane Huggins said the company is continually looking for ways to operate more efficiently, and, "as with all organizations, from time to time, we make staffing adjustments as needed," according to the report. Departments or positions expected to be affected by the workforce reduction were not specified in the report, nor was a timeline for the layoffs.

On average, analysts forecasted earnings of $3.31 a share on revenues of $4.25 billion. But LifePoint expects 2013 earnings per share of $2.73 to $3.11 on revenues of $3.65 billion to $3.75 billion, according to the report.
