Insurance expert group details concerns with BCRA

The American Academy of Actuaries wrote a letter to Congress and the nation's governors detailing its worries with the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

"With legislation of this scope affecting millions of people and highly complex markets, assuring stable and sustainable markets is no simple feat," said Academy Senior Health Fellow Cori Uccello. "We provided a nonpartisan, actuarial examination of the BCRA component-by-component, and drew lawmakers' attention to critical issues."

Instead of repealing current legislation and replacing it with the BCRA, the AAA suggested fixes to the ACA, including continued funding for cost-sharing subsidies and stronger enforcement of the individual insurance mandate.
