How Senate Democrats are standing against efforts to repeal the ACA

Senate Democrats will work to decelerate chamber business and lengthen the legislative process over the GOP's healthcare reform efforts, reports USA Today.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Democrats will oppose requests for "unanimous consent to set aside rules and expedite proceedings," according to the report. By doing so, Democrats aim to send the GOP healthcare bill to a committee for public debate and amendment, he said in the report.

"This is a bill that would likely reorder one-sixth of the American economy and have life-and-death consequences for millions of Americans, and it's being discussed in secret with no committee hearings, no debate, no amendments, no input from the minority," Mr. Schumer said. "This is the most glaring departure from normal legislative procedure that I have ever seen."

Democrats also recently launched a new #AmericaSpeaksOut campaign advocating against overturning the ACA, and offered Senate Republicans a list of more than 30 potential Senate rooms "to assist" the GOP in scheduling a hearing on the healthcare bill, reports USA Today.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has assured senators will have "ample opportunity" to review and amend the forthcoming bill during an "unlimited amendment process," to be held on the Senate floor.
