Houston long-term hospital to close: 4 things to know

Select Specialty Hospital - Houston Heights, an acute long-term care hospital in Houston, will close later this year, according to a Houston Business Journal report.

The hospital closure will affect about 220 jobs.

Here are four things to know about the closure.

1. Earlier this month, Pennsylvania-based Select Medical Holdings told the Texas Workforce Commission it will close the hospital on or within 14 days of July 3, according to the report.

2. Few details have been released about the closure. However, a hospital spokeswoman attributed the closure to "business reasons."

3. Although Select Specialty Hospital-Houston Heights will close, Select Specialty Hospital's west Houston and Texas Medical Center locations will remain open.

4. "Though we are no longer accepting new patients at Houston Heights, providing high-quality care to the remaining patients still with us remains our top priority," the hospital spokeswoman said, according to the report. "In the coming days, we will be working with our dedicated staff on transition plans, including potential positions available at other hospitals in our network."
