Hospital, Physician Practice Employment Expected to Rise This Year

The employment rate at hospitals and physician practices is expected to increase over the last six month of the year, due largely in part to the end of uncertainties surrounding healthcare reform and the Medicare sustainable growth rate, according to a report by American Medical News.
Hospitals added roughly 3,200 jobs in the first half of the year, up nearly double from the number of jobs added in 2009, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While hiring was down for the first six months for physician practices at 3,600 new jobs, industry experts expect increases from July through December. In addition to less uncertainty surrounding reimbursement, experts cite the expiration of hiring freezes enacted last year as another cause of the expected hiring uptick.

The hiring increases may be most significant in July as residents finish their training and hospitals and offices bring on these new physicians, according to the report.
