Genesis Health System in Davenport, Iowa, is eliminating 30 management positions — affecting its COO and a senior vice president — and 50 staff-level positions, according to a Quad City Times report.
The system's CEO, Doug Cropper, and the rest of the C-suite are all taking pay cuts.
In addition, Genesis Health is reducing employee benefits, which saved enough money to spare 160 staff positions, according to the report.
A system spokesman pointed to decreased admissions as one of the reasons for the workforce reduction. "It might be said we are the victims of our own success as we've made investment into population health that has resulted in fewer hospital admissions. Now we find ourselves without the inpatients to support the system," he told the Quad City Times.
