FTC names new acting director, Meier back to healthcare division

D. Bruce Hoffman will take over as acting director of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition on August 7, sending current acting director Markus Meier back to his duties leading the commission's healthcare division.

Mr. Hoffman is a partner at New York-based law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP. He is co-head of the firm's antitrust group and previously served as the Bureau of Competition's deputy director and associate director for regional litigation.

"Bruce brings tremendous qualifications to his new role as Acting Director of the Bureau of Competition, and I am thrilled he will be joining us in August," said Maureen K. Ohlhausen, acting chairman of the FTC.

Mr. Meier took the position of acting director of the Competition Bureau earlier this month after former director Tad Lispky retired. He has lead the healthcare division since 2006.

"I am grateful to Markus for his exemplary service at the Bureau and look forward to him once again leading the Health Care Division," said Ms. Ohlhausen.
