Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Ga., cut 28 full and part-time jobs Jan. 16 in an effort to lower overhead costs and continue operating, according to a WTOC report.
The hospital has been eyeing cost-cutting measures in the midst of its financial problems, which Hospital Authority chairman Marty Galbreath attributed, in large part, to reduced reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid and private insurance companies, according to the report. Mr. Galbreath told WTOC that employees would receive severance pay, along with other benefits.
He also noted that EvansMemorialHospital's medical services will be maintained.
